Historic Night for Sheridan family.
January 5, 2026 in News

What a historic night Saturday turned out to be for the Sheridan family. Glenn was the 4th official for the Leinster v Connacht game, whilst our former President Wayne was in his normal stewarding position looking after the VIPs. Unfortunately, our match referee, Andrew Brace picked up a calf injury towards the end of the second half, and therefore Keane Davison stepped up to the referee position. This meant a re-shuffle for everyone else, with Glenn stepping into the AR2 role.
This was Glenns debut at URC, and he ran touch for the second half. What is special about this feat is that Wayne, proudly looking on in the stands, ran touch for the exact same fixture 30 years ago. Back then, Graham Crother of the USRFR was in the middle, and Eddie Walsh from Connacht was the other touch judge. The Leinster team that day was littered with many familiar names – McQuilkin, Francis, Jameson, Rooney and our own Alain Rolland. Rolland was flagged for foul play during the game by none other than Wayne Sheridan, who later had to share the bus home with him. The Connacht team had a few familiar faces in it too, including McGuinness and Elwood.
An unexpected special occasion for the Sheridan family on Saturday. Well done to Glenn and Wayne.
