President Address 2025 – 26

Message From The President

Dear Fellow Members,

I am honoured to be the incoming president of the Leinster Rugby referees, and I wish to extend my heartfelt gratitude for your unwavering dedication and support throughout the past season. Together, we have witnessed the remarkable growth of the game over the past few seasons, a testament to our collective commitment and passion for rugby.

The progress we have achieved has not come without effort. We have engaged diligently with competition coordinators, youth coordinators, and club stakeholders, forging strong relationships that have been instrumental in the development of the sport. This synergy has allowed us to foster a dynamic environment where both seasoned players and newcomers can thrive.

As we move forward to the next season, it is imperative that we continue to focus on three key areas: law knowledge, fitness, and empathy. Mastery of the laws of the game is the cornerstone of our role as referees. It is our responsibility to ensure that matches are conducted fairly and safely, upholding the integrity of rugby. Continuous education and training will enable us to stay abreast of any changes and interpretations, ensuring that we are always prepared.

Fitness is another critical aspect that cannot be overlooked. The physical demands of refereeing are substantial, and maintaining peak condition allows us to perform our duties effectively. Regular fitness assessments and tailored training programs will be essential in keeping us match-ready and resilient, capable of meeting the challenges posed by the fast-paced nature of modern rugby.

Lastly, empathy must be at the heart of our approach. Understanding the perspectives of players, coaches, and supporters fosters a spirit of camaraderie and respect. By demonstrating compassion and fairness, we can build trust and maintain the positive atmosphere that is so vital to the sport. Empathy allows us to connect with others on a deeper level, making our officiating not just about enforcement but about enhancing the overall experience of the game.

In conclusion, I look forward to working alongside each of you as we continue to elevate Leinster Rugby. Together, we will strive for excellence, nurturing the growth of the game while embracing the principles of law knowledge, fitness, and empathy. Thank you for your unwavering dedication and let us embark on this journey with renewed vigour and enthusiasm toward season 2025/ 26.

Yours in Rugby,

Brendan Conroy
