Training & Education Highlights – September 2025

September is always one of the busiest months in our calendar as we prepare for the kick-off of leagues across the province, from U13 right up to adult level. Here’s a look at what’s been happening in referee training and education over the past month

✅ Trainee Referees – 40 new recruits have started refereeing, completing three sessions: Welcome to Refereeing, Ready to Referee, and Safety and Control.

✅ Level 1 – Age-grade referees attended an online Safety and Control session, focusing on effectively dealing with foul play.

✅ Level 2 – 170 referees who officiate the lower end of adult rugby took part in a Ready to Referee webinar, focusing on season preparation and self-review to support continuous improvement.

✅ Level 3 – Match officials at the top levels within the province attended an in-person Ready to Referee session, focusing on season preparation and player management.

✅ Level 4 – Our National Panel referees took part in a session designed to prepare them for the opening rounds of the Energia All-Ireland League.

✅ Referee Developers – Our referee mentors met to plan their support for trainee referees in their early matches, and we were proud to launch the new IRFU Referee Developer Qualification.
